Nigella Lawson divorce initiated by Charles Saatchi post neck grabbing incident

Nigella Lawson is getting divorced from Charles Saatchi. This move is probably not surprising to many who remember the alleged neck grabbing incident in a London restaurant that happened last month. But, what may be a bit of a twist in this story is that the multi-millionaire art collector who was reportedly hurting his celebrity chef wife was the one who called for the permanent split on July 7. And he did so by making a statement to a UK newspaper.

According to the Daily Mail, Charles Saatchi said Sunday that he was "sorry" about divorcing Nigella Lawson but that he couldn't get over the "disappointment" of her refusal to defend him when photos showed up online while the two were fighting in front of a seafood restaurant on the eatery's terrace in Mayfair.

Saatchi remarked about Lawson and the sad situation by saying:

"I feel that I have clearly been a disappointment to Nigella during the last year or so, and I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way."

At the time the images of the 70-year-old tycoon having hold of his 53-year-old wife's neck were making the rounds, Saatchi, a known recluse, downplayed the act, calling this altercation with his wife of ten years a "playful tiff."

Nigella Lawson left the family home with her 17-year-old son Bruno shortly after the incident. She never made any comment about what happened with her husband, Charles Saatchi, and she has stayed out of the public eye since the "tiff" happened in June.

And so, as this divorce is initiated by one party, the other party has not come forth with her side of the story. Stay tuned.
